Volunteering

Are you a paddler who would like to volunteer for a change? Do you have family members / friends that would like to help? Have you missed out on a place and would like a guaranteed place for next year? Are you working towards your Duke of Edinburgh award or currently studying an event management qualification. and would like experience?

Head of the Dart SUP Challenge is due to take place on Sunday 14th April 2019 and the organisers are looking for volunteers to help them on the day.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will also need to be available for a briefing on Saturday 13th April (max 1hr) and have own transport (we can not guarantee lift shares at present, however this may change).

With the start and finish being in separate places, there are a number of logistical challenges to ensure preparations are set up ready for the paddlers, for which the organisers are looking for help with.

The Start (Totnes) – 7am until TBC, then Dartmouth until TBC

  • Car Parking – directing paddlers, keeping spaces clear and handling queries from the public
  • Branding – putting flags up from our sponsors
  • Registration – set up and help to run
  • Help starting the race
  • Packing up once the race has started
  • Setting up prize giving at the finish
  • Help re-digging and packing away at the end of the day

The Finish (Dartmouth) – 7am until 6pm (TBC)

  • Car Parking – directing paddlers, keeping spaces clear and handling queries from the public
  • Erecting tents / gazebos and de-rigging after
  • Provide security for equipment left on site for the finish
  • Collecting bibs in, handing out medals as paddlers finish and directing paddlers where to go
  • Helping capture the results
  • Branding – putting flags up from our sponsors
  • Help re-digging and packing away at the end of the day

The day will be long as volunteers will need to be onsite from 7am until potentially 6pm, however in return HOTD organisers will offer you a fun, action packed day full off rewards!! You will be part of an amazing team delivering the biggest SUP event in the UK and have the opportunity to support paddlers taking part.

Head of the Dart organisers are happy to provide recommendation letters for any one working towards a qualification that volunteers.
