Volunteering

Are you a paddler who would like to volunteer for a change? Do you have family members / friends that would like to help? Have you missed out on a place and would like a guaranteed place for next year? Are you working towards your Duke of Edinburgh award or currently studying an event management qualification. and would like experience?

Head of the Dart SUP Challenge is due to take place on Saturday 23rd April 2022 and the organisers are looking for volunteers to help them on the day.  The day will be long as volunteers will need to be onsite from 7am until potentially 6pm, however in return HOTD organisers will offer you a fun, action packed day full off rewards!! You will be part of an amazing team delivering the biggest SUP event in the UK and have the opportunity to support paddlers taking part.

Volunteers will also receive a FREE event t-shirt and a guaranteed place for the 2023 event.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will also need to be available for a briefing for a virtual briefing on Wednesday 20th April (1900 for 1hr) and have own transport (we can not guarantee lift shares at present, however this may change).

With the start and finish being in separate places, there are a number of logistical challenges to ensure preparations are set up ready for the paddlers, for which the organisers are looking for help with.

  • Min 8 Marshalls (4 at each location)
  • Min 3 Administration (at the finish)

Marshalls  – The Start (Totnes) – 7am until 3pm 

  • Car Parking – directing paddlers, keeping spaces clear and handling queries from the public
  • Erecting tents / gazebos and de-rigging once the race starts
  • Provide security for equipment left on site for the start
  • Branding – putting flags up from our sponsors
  • Provide assistance to paddlers entering the water
  • Potential to support the Race Director with starting the event

Marshalls – The Finish (Totnes) – 7am until 6pm 

  • Car Parking – directing paddlers, keeping spaces clear and handling queries from the public
  • Erecting tents / gazebos and de-rigging at the end
  • Assisting with checking people onto the coach
  • Provide security for equipment left in Coronation Park
  • Collecting bibs in, handing out medals as paddlers finish and directing paddlers where to go
  • Branding – putting flags up from our sponsors
  • Setting up prize giving

Administration – The Finish (Dartmouth) – 7am until 6pm

  • Help run the registration desk (this will be from 8am until 11am)
  • Support in the recording of the results (this will be from 12.30pm until 6pm)
  • Ideally be available on Friday 22nd April (10am until 5pm) to attend Red Paddle Co for a run through and pre-registration.

Head of the Dart organisers are happy to provide recommendation letters for any one working towards a qualification that volunteers.
