Unlike most SUP events, the Head of the Dart follows the route of the river and finishes around eight miles away from the start line. This can present logistical issues, particularly for anyone without a non-paddling partner who can take their vehicle to the finish.
For 2019, we are looking at putting on a shuttle bus from the finish back to the start before the event to help paddlers with logistics on the day. Places can be booked at the point of registration and will cost £10 per person. This is very much a trial as when previously offered up take was low however we know from feedback paddlers are keen, and will review post 2019 event.
There will be two shuttles which will depart at set times to ensure paddlers are at the start:
- 9am from Dartmouth TBC arriving 9.45am at Totnes Rowing Club
- 11am from Dartmouth TBC arriving 11.45am at Totnes Rowing Club
We strongly recommend anyone taking the 11am shuttle to register prior to leaving to drop off any cars in Dartmouth. NOTE: It takes around 45mins to drive each way, so please ensure you leave enough time.
If you have an inflatable board, you will be able to take this on the shuttle bus in its bag and inflatable upon arrival. Unfortunately we are unable to transport any hardboards.
If I turn up on the day, can I get the shuttle?
Unfortunately places need to be booked in advance so we know how many people to cater for. If there is a space on the day because a paddler has not shown up, then we may be able to accommodate however this cannot be guaranteed.
Can I take my board with me?
If you have any inflatable boards these can be transported in their bags. We are unable to take hardboards sorry.
Why are the times early given the start time of the race?
To keep costs down for paddlers, we will only have one coach and it takes 45mins to drive from the start to the finish. To allow enough time for paddlers to drop cars off at Totnes and get to Dartmouth, the shuttles need to be early.
If I have registered however now need to book a spot on the shuttle, can I?
We can take bookings for the shuttle up until 9am Friday 12th April or until places are full. This is to allow us to let the Coach supplier know and prepare ahead of registration.
